Magazine Analysis (Company Cover)

  • Company Magazine began over 30 years ago, it is a monthly fashion, celebrity and lifestyle magazine which is published in the U.K. It is owned by Nat Mags which started in 1910. Company have printed over 90 thousand copies as of June 2013. I decided to do an Analysis of May 2013's issue because I think that it is related to my chosen genre and I think I will have a lot to say/opinions on the structure of this magazine.
Cover:

  1. Masthead: Centred at the top of the page, the model's head is covering two of the letters, but it can still be recognisable. A bright, mint coloured Green (Photograph changed the header colour, it is originally Green in real life) is used to stand out from the Pink that the model is wearing in the cover photo. There are also a lot of other colours used at the bottom of the page too.
  2. Coverlines: A range of font sizes and typography used to surround the main model image, words like 'High Street's Hottest' and 'The Clash!' were put in a bigger size and two different fonts to attract the attention of the reader. The layout of the page is that they have covered the boarder with vital information and left space so that the image can be clearly seen, to which the text ties in with that.
  3. Main Image: The model is wearing Pink and White, she is sat down with her leg on top of the other, giving a stern look. The Pink background luckily doesn't blend in with the clothes she's wearing as her dress is White and her shoes are a dark Pink.
  • This month features an American DJ and Model, to which she is currently out in the public eye so the way she dresses is vital. The girl, late-twenties, caught my eye due to the fact that she is dressed quite brightly throughout the magazine, and I think that the type of style that she has gone for could most likely attract the audience that I am trying to get to read my magazine.
  • The background is very minimalist, a light shade of Pink, and although the title is a brave bright Green, I think that the two colours surprisingly work together.
